Books Galore!

I’ve always been interested in books and as my wife will testify our home is full of them, even though when I retired I took several car loads of theological books to Oak Hill Theological College. When I was the Vicar of St. Francis of Assisi, Barkingside I started their twice a year Book Sales to raise funds and even though I have been retired nearly two years they are continuing to hold them in March and October. If you love books here is an opportunity to buy at very reasonable prices.

The next one is on Saturday 20th March in the St. Francis Community Hall, Fencepiece Road, Hainault IG6 2LA where any one interested will find books of all types: hardbacks, paperbacks, fiction and non fiction all at bargain prices including a “bargain table” with books at 10p each or 6 for 50p. The doors open at 9.30 a.m. until 12 noon. Admission is 30p and Tea and Coffee are available.

  1. Would you please explain to me why you have taken the positon that a woman should not be made a Bishop in the Church of England. If you follow the Roman Catholic's in that women should not be allowed to be Bishops or priests then it would seem to me you should be following their postion that priests should not marry.

We have never had a woman Bishop in our Diosease, although we have a few women priests. I would get upset and leave the church should a gay Bishop ever be elected. I would also leave if my Bishop were to allow same sex marriage.

I look forward to your reply.

  2. There is no authority for women to be ordained, in the Bible or in the tradition of the Church. I agree with you that an active Gay Bishop would be a travesty and there is no such thing, in my opinion, as same sex marriages. With regards to the celibacy of clergy this is a matter of discipline and there are many married priests in the Roman Catholic Church (usually in what is called the Uniate Churches)
